The World in 1001 Maps. Museum Night at the Maps Museum

Evenimente Speciale

For Museum Night, Saturday, 23 May 2026, between 12:00 and 23:00, the Museum of Maps invites you to a creative exploration of its interior spaces and garden, to enjoy maps, contemporary art (data art), music, and nature. Admission is free; last entry is at 22:30. Sunday, 24 May 2026, the museum will be closed.

The Museum

We invite you to discover the collection of antique maps and engravings, as well as interactive experiences designed for young visitors: puzzles featuring maps of Romania and Europe, the AR app “Nova’s Quest”, and the booklets “Explorer Through the Museum” (ages 8+) and “Travellers in the World of Waters” (ages 12+), offering trails, activities, and games.

On the ground floor you will find the latest project by artist Miluță Flueraș — 700 Million Points: The Invisible Cartography of Romania — in which geodetic measurements and technical data archives are transformed into works of art. Digital coordinates and field measurements become luminous maps, fluid trajectories, and unique “portraits” of Romanian cities, brought to life through augmented reality via the Artivive app.

The Garden

We invite you to relax over a coffee or tea on the museum terrace, to join guided tours of the museum garden led by Club Clorofila, and to enjoy live music in the garden.

Programme for Saturday, 23 May 2026:

12:00–22:00 — Permanent collection and temporary exhibition 700 Million Points: The Invisible Cartography of Romania — artist Miluță Flueraș, curator Despina Hașegan

18:00 and 19:00 — Guided garden tours with Cătălina Bolozan (Club Clorofila)

19:30–22:00 — DJ set in the garden — in partnership with the Union of Interpretive Creative Musicians of Romania (UCIMR)

Museum Night is a European cultural event that turns museums into vibrant, after-hours spaces open to all. Launched in 2005 under the Council of Europe and coordinated by the European Museum Organisation Network (NEMO), the event reaches its 22nd edition in Romania in 2026. The 2026 edition is coordinated nationally by the National Museum Network of Romania, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, participating municipal authorities, and an extensive network of media partners and sponsors.
